SGL Workshop RECAP

WINTER 2019 - 26 JAN 2019

Workshop Part 1: Leading Life-Giving Prayer Times

Do you ever wish that your breakout times went deeper? That you saw more transparency and vulnerability, filled with spirit-filled brokenness?

The key? Worship-based, Spirit-led, Scripture-fed prayer culture in our breakout times

As leaders we watched the first 2 sessions of Daniel Henderson’s excellent “How to Lead Life-Giving Prayer Times”. You can find all the session videos (there are 3 more videos!) and the notes here (check your old emails for the password)

Workshop Part 2: Small Groups growing from Milk to Meat

In part 2 of our workshop, we laid out a completely fresh vision for what the ultimate goal of small groups: Maturing disciples from milk to solid food (Heb 5:12-14). You can find the whole vision laid out here.

Key principle: We must view our spiritual development the same way a parent views their child’s physical development. Spiritually-stunted growth should be as abnormal as an 8-year old who is still on milk only.

Key problem: We tend to stay on milk for most of our Christian lives. This means we have poor foundations, little progress and meager mission output.

New model: We must change our focus to maturing our members to solid food. This encompasses a new approach where the content is geared towards core foundational beliefs/practices (Beholding our Saviour, Transforming the heart, Renewing the mind, Loving one another), each of which is examined in 6 semesters over 2 years, all with the a built-in end-goal of missions (Being equipped to make disciples and Going to make disciples). This then becomes a reflection of our discipleship model (ABIDE – CONNECT – SHARE) and is best represented in the lifecycle below:

As such, starting this spring (after Easter 2019), you as leaders will have the opportunity to:

1) Choose a MODULE: Consult with your coaches to discern the spiritual life-stage of your group? What do they need more grounding in? Is it time to start being equipped to SHARE? Ultimately, what module should your group go through this term?

2) Start a STUDY: Once you’ve discerned your MODULE, you can choose a corresponding book or video study to go through with your groups. This will start you on your way to moving from milk to meat along the discipleship lifecycle.

Workshop Part 3: Ministry Updates
